Settings
Activate logging of activities in the test
In addition to the tracking options described above, ILIAS also provides a detailed analysis of access data for tests.
Proceed as follows:
- Click Administration in the main header and select the Test & Assessment option.
- To activate detailed tracking, select the corresponding option "Activate logging of Test&Assessment" in the "Log data" dialog and click "Save".You can also specify here in which of the installed languages (see section Activating and managing language versions of the user interface<ilEmph/>) the logging should take place. For the other settings at this point that are not relevant for tracking, see section Enabling special editing options for Test&Assessment.
- In the "Log data output" view, the data can then be called up test by test, specifying a time frame.
Activate question types
The Available question types section allows you to select the question types that should be available in ILIAS tests and question pools.
All question types are allowed by default.
Note: For more detailed information on the question types, see the "Manual for ILIAS Authors" from Qualitus GmbH.
Allow manual evaluation of question types
A manual evaluation of participant responses from tests is always necessary if there is no automatic evaluation option.
This is currently only necessary for free text questions.
However, lecturers can be given the opportunity to correct the automatic evaluation according to their own ideas for each question type.
The Enable manual grading for section allows you to select from question types that can be graded manually in ILIAS tests.
By default, this is only the case for free text questions.
Note: Please note that enabling this option allows any authorized person in any test of the ILIAS installation to correct test answers. You should therefore be careful with these settings, as changing question results at a later date may lead to problems!

Release units for formula questions
A development for a complex mathematical question type, which was previously available as a plug-in for ILIAS, has now been incorporated into the ILIAS standard in version 4.4: The formula question is a question type in which the author defines the question - the calculation of a certain value - and the solution - the correct formula - but the concrete formulation of the values is carried out automatically by ILIAS within a certain framework using random numbers. However, this requires a presetting in the administration which units of measurement are to be supported.
To allow units of measurement for formula questions, proceed as follows:
- Switch to the "Units" tab.
- Click on the "Add category" button above the (possibly empty) table.
- Enter a title (e.g. "Length measurements") and save.
- ILIAS shows the table again, which now (also) contains your entry, click on its title.
- ILIAS shows an empty table with units of the category, click on the button "Add unit".
- Enter a title for the new unit (e.g. "Meter" or "m") and save.
- ILIAS returns to the list of units, which now also contains the unit you have just created, and you now have the following options for continuing:
- You can use the "Back" button to return to the list of unit categories and, for example, create a category for "Area units" in addition to "Length units", although this division is not functionally necessary: You can also simply work with a single category that contains all units.
- As soon as you have more than one unit, you can also specify whether the unit refers to a "base unit" or which factor connects the two:
- You can add further units. After you have created a unit "m", create an additional unit "cm", in which case you can now specify that "m" is to be used as the base unit, with a factor of "0.01".
- After you have created a "cm" unit, create an additional "m" unit, where you could specify that "cm" is to be used as the base unit with a factor of "100".
- You can change the order of the units in the list offered to the question author by entering numbers in the text fields in front of the titles and clicking on "Save order". ILIAS automatically generates tens again.
- You can edit or delete an existing unit.
- Please note that a unit that has already been selected as a base unit for others can no longer be deleted.
