You can quickly move, link or delete objects in the administration. This offers two advantages over working directly in the repository:

  1. Content in object blocks is immediately available and can therefore be deleted or moved more quickly than in the repository.
  2. The objects can be sorted by their last change or their title with one click, regardless of the object type. This makes it easier to tidy up without having to change the view of the container object in the repository.

You want to move an object in the administration:

  1. Activate the checkbox of the desired object.
  2. Select Cut in the selection menu above or below the list.
  3. ILIAS opens a new page and asks you to select the desired destination. Select this in the tree and click on the Insert button.
  4. ILIAS moves the object and reports: "Object(s) moved."

You want to link an object:

  1. Activate the checkbox of the desired object.
  2. Select the Link entry in the selection menu above or below the list.
  3. ILIAS opens a new page and asks you to select the desired destination. Select this in the tree and click on the Insert button.
  4. ILIAS links the object and reports: "The property was divided into the following areas: (location of the link)"

You want to delete an object:

  1. Activate the checkbox of the desired object.
  2. Select Delete in the selection menu above or below the list.
  3. ILIAS will ask you to confirm the deletion. Click on the Confirm button.
  4. ILIAS deletes the object.

What can you do here?

The most important feature in this part of the administration is the option to restore deleted objects from the repository. The only requirement for this is that the recycle bin has not been deactivated on your ILIAS platform.

If you want to restore an object, open the Recycle bin tab and follow the instructions in the help.

You can also delete, move or link objects at this point in the administration. You can also adjust the rights settings for the objects. You can also do all this directly in the repository. However, the administration work can be faster for experienced ILIAS admins.

Find the desired object in the recycle bin

A recycle bin system is activated in ILIAS by default. This allows you to restore items deleted from the repository.

  1. Open the Repository, Recycle Bin and Rights Settings section in Administration.
  2. Open the Recycle bin tab.
  3. ILIAS displays a list of all objects in the recycle bin. You now have several options for proceeding:
  • If the object was recently deleted, sort the list according to the Deleted on column. So you can quickly find the property you are looking for.

  • If the object was deleted a long time ago and you know the former location in the repository, navigate to the desired location using the repository tree in the slate. All deleted objects in this location will then be displayed in the repository.

  • If neither applies, you can sort the list according to the deleting user or use the filter. This allows the list to be filtered according to the object type, the object title, the deleting user and the time period for the deletion.

Restore an object from the recycle bin

You have identified the desired object in the recycle bin and would like to restore it.

  1. Activate the checkbox in front of the desired object.
Note: You can also select several objects.
  2. Select Restore (original location) from the selection menu above or below the list.
Note: If the object is to be restored to a different location, select Restore (new location) if necessary.
  3. Click on the Execute button.
  4. ILIAS restores the object and reports: "Object(s) restored!"

Restore an object whose parent object was deleted in the magazine

  1. Activate the checkbox in front of the desired object.
  • You have the option of restoring objects to a location other than the location where the object was deleted. This is required if the parent container object has been deleted, for example: A user has deleted an entire category and its contents. Only after deleting it does he realize that the category still contained a data collection that she would like to continue using. As administrator, you can now identify the desired data collection in the recycle bin. However, you cannot restore it to its original location, as the category has been deleted - and there is no longer any need for it. In this case, select the Restore (new location) option when restoring to the recycle bin: You can also select several objects.

  1. Select Restore (original location) from the selection menu above or below the list.
  2. Click on the Execute button.
  3. ILIAS restores the object and reports: "Object(s) restored!"
