Portfolios - Introduction
Portfolios serve as reflection and collection folders that are filled individually. They can be used to demonstrate skills and reflect on learning processes.
The main component of an e-portfolio is often several work results: texts, files, images or videos.
In addition, a portfolio usually also contains reflections on one's own learning process or a learning diary.
A portfolio is always linked to a person and can be found under Communication > Portfolio.
However, teachers can create portfolio templates in their course, which then form the basis for the personal portfolios. This ensures that all portfolios created in a course have the same structure.
If portfolios are used as coursework or examinations and are to be viewed and/or assessed by lecturers, it is advisable to organize the submission via the ILIAS exercise (Type; Submit portfolio).
In order to make a portfolio accessible to other course participants, users can also share their portfolio with a specific person or group. In this way, other people can also comment on the portfolio (if the comment function has been activated beforehand).
Learners can each have several portfolios. For each portfolio, you can choose which content you want to present, how this content is structured and who should be able to view or comment on the portfolio. A portfolio consists of one or more tabs and has a permanent URL (Internet address) so that it can be accessed at any time.
Learners can export their portfolios in HTML format and receive a corresponding .zip archive.
Activate portfolios globally
Activate the portfolios on your installation.
- Open Administration > Personal workspace > Portfolio.
- Activate the Activate portfolios checkbox.
- Click Save.
By activating the portfolio function, you also allow people to activate one of their portfolios as a profile.
If you have also enabled people to make their profiles globally accessible (on the Internet), i.e. for access without a login name and password, this gives people the opportunity to operate their own homepages via the ILIAS installation, which cannot be edited by you as technical support.
You can also allow personalized banners for portfolios at this point, which will appear at the top of portfolios; the width and height of this banner can also be defined. If you agree to people using HTML and/or JavaScript code in their portfolios, you can allow this here (default).
