Change password, language, and settings

Make personal settings

You want to customize ILIAS to your personal preferences. You can make the following settings individually; they only affect user access. They can be changed at any time.

Note: The following options are not enabled on every ILIAS installation; you may only see some of them.

  1. Click on the topmost colored button on the far right.
  2. ILIAS opens a selection menu.
  3. Click on Settings.
  4. ILIAS shows a form with the following settings:
Language: All user interface terms will be displayed in the selected language. However, the learning content itself will not be translated.
Default skin/style: You can change the appearance of the user interface.
Screen reader optimization: ILIAS is displayed in an improved way for a screen reader. Users with visual impairments can use your assistive programs more comfortably.
Hits/Page: Determine how long lists (search results, member lists) should be. Shortlists load quickly, but you have to scroll a lot.
Last visited: ILIAS shows you in the main navigation in the selection menu Repository which objects you have opened last. You can use this list as a quick navigation. Select whether you want your most recent objects to be displayed:

     - Save Entries: Your most recently visited pages are displayed as jumping points, even if you have logged out in between.

     - Delete entries after a session: The list of your most recently visited pages will be deleted after you log in.

     - Do not save entries: You will not be shown a list of recently visited pages.

Session Reminder: You want to prevent your session from closing after a long time without clicking. Unsaved changes like an unpublished forum post will be lost. Before your session is closed, the session reminder warns you. You can then click to extend your session again. Under Lead time, enter how many minutes you want to be warned before your session expires. Please activate the session reminder, it is convenient.
ILIAS time zone, date format for input, time format: Select how times should be displayed in the system.
Setting for the test: If you want to use special characters in the tests, you can activate the corresponding drop-down menu. However, the setting of the test takes precedence over your preference. Thus, the selection menu may be displayed or hidden contrary to your selection.
  5. Click Save above or below the selection menus.
  6. ILIAS adjusts the displays accordingly and reports "Changes saved".

Replace the existing password with a new one.

You want to replace your existing password with a new one.

  2. Open the Password tab.
  3. Under Current Password, enter your existing password.
  4. Under New Password, enter your desired new password.
  5. Under Re-enter Password, enter your desired new password a second time.

Note: Depending on the settings of your ILIAS administrator, passwords have to meet certain conditions. For example, combining numbers and letters in a password may be necessary. ILIAS will inform you if your new password does not meet these requirements.

Some ILIAS installations are connected to a leading system (e.g., Active Directory) that transfers the user accounts, including the password, to ILIAS. In this case, you have no possibility to change your password in ILIAS.
