Administrators and technical support

Who takes care of "my" ILIAS?

  • ILIAS is usually run by the institution where you learn and teach. This can be a university, school, or company.
  • While ILIAS development is centrally coordinated, the individual institutions are responsible for installing and maintaining ILIAS on-site.
  • Thus, the institutions provide administrators who technically maintain ILIAS.
  • If you have a problem using ILIAS, contact your local administrators first. They can usually help the fastest and are always informed if there are technical difficulties at your location. Administrators can also report bugs to the central ILIAS development management to further improve the software.

How can I contact my technical support/administrators?

  • To contact your administrators, click on the Contact Technical Support link at the bottom of any page in ILIAS. ILIAS will then open a new page with the contact details of your contact person. Depending on your administrator's settings, it may also be possible to receive support directly via chat.
  • Note: If the link "Contact technical support" is not displayed, contact your teaching and training staff. Teachers can usually get help from their computer center or IT department.

Accordion

Accordions allow you to make a page with a lot of content clearer and more user-friendly.

Instead of always displaying all the information directly on a page, organize it thematically into accordions that can be shown and hidden individually with a mouse click. The page does not have to be reloaded for this, which is why all accordions are quickly searchable if required. The page becomes clearer by hiding the content that is not needed in each case.

Actions menu

Different functions concerning an object in ILIAS can be found in the actions menu. In ILIAS, this menu is sometimes also represented simply by a triangle (▼). We then speak of the ▼-selection menu: A click on the triangle opens the selection list.

The ▼-selection menu can be called up for all objects in the parent container object in the Repository, for example, in the category or in the course in which the object is located. A reduced actions menu can also be used within the edit mode of all objects.

Please note: The actions menu is hidden in some places by the online help window. So if it is on the right side of the screen, you have to close the online help first to be able to use the actions menu.

Which actions are displayed depends on both the type of object and the user's permissions. Typical actions are:

  • Edit: Opens the object in edit mode.
  • Info: Displays the info tab of the object.
  • Delete: Deletes the object and all of its contents, if applicable.
  • Link/Move/Copy
  • Put on Desktop/Remove from Desktop: Adds or removes the object from the My Offerings list on the Personal Desktop.
  • End course/group membership
  • Add comments/tags/notes

Objects in ILIAS

All things that can be created in ILIAS by instructors and administrators are called "objects".
This includes files and forums as well as tests and whole courses.

So objects are the tools that instructors can use to provide content, facilitate discussions, and query knowledge.

Some objects can contain other objects. They are therefore referred to as container objects.

Container objects

ILIAS offers you the possibility to dissolve the combined elements again.

You want to remove an object block from your page.

  1. Click the▼ menu to the right of the object block and select the Delete entry.
  2. ILIAS asks, "Are you sure you want to delete the following objects:."
  3. Click the Confirm button.
  4. ILIAS deletes the desired object block and reports: Object(s) deleted.

Note: The objects assigned to the object block are also not deleted by deleting the object block.
